When I first started writing these reviews one of my good online friends Willow suggested that I listen to the band Nudist Colony and review some of their fine music on my music blog. For my 10th album review I thought I’d honor her request and talk about their first album, Bigfoot Erotica.
When I first heard the name Nudist Colony I thought it would be something like Alien Ant Farm and I got really excited. I mean, who doesn’t love music with that kind of vibe, right? But no, oh no. I pulled up Spotify, found the band and hit play. Bigfoot Erotica is an album composed entirely of Karaoke of popular songs with the lyrics reworked to be about cryptids, like Bigfoot and the Mothman. Mr. Mothman is the song Mr. Sandman but with the lyrics rewritten about Mothman. We Don’t Know How LinkedIn Works is a song about the job market, deep stuff.
When I first listened to these, I described them to Willow as ‘bringing a tear to a glass eye.’ And I stand by that. Nudist Colony is lovely, and I recommend it heavily. It’s on YouTube and streaming services, but not on Bandcamp or even recorded on Discogs. Willow, if you're reading this, I hope you know that you have... excellent taste.
